Betty Boo: Inspiration!

Christmas telly begins! Yesterday I spent all day horizontal on the sofa watching ITV. I watched A Cinderella Story and Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium and today I'm going to watch one of my favourite musicals...ANNIE! I love that little orphan. Also yesterday my Blogger Secret Santa turned up which I am SO excited about! I'm waiting until I find out my blogger's identity before I post what I got. I'm starting a new regular feature on the blog called 'inspiration*' where I can gush about my favourite people. It's basically a feature I can bring out whenever I'm feeling a little apathetic about blogging. Sometimes it's hard to think of stuff to blog about, but I have millions of of people I admire so hopefully I'll always having something to post!
*Uninspired title may change at a later date.

Todays inspiration is Betty Boo, pop star from the early 90s. You may remember her for the lyrics "Betty Boo! Betty Boo just doin'the do'" or perhaps by her distinctive black bob. I loved Betty Boo when I was little. When she released her first album I must have been around four or five years old and I have hazy memories of dancing to her when she was on Top of the Pops. It's only in later years that I've realised I was probably a lot heavier influenced by Betty than I first thought, as I'm pretty sure she was the start of my obsession with heavy fringes and black bob hair styles (I've had some variation on this hair do' since I was fifteen)! Evidence:(this is just a small section from the past two years, I'm not ready to inflict anyone with my fifteen year old webcam shots)
Betty Boo was much loved for being adorable and also for being really really fun. If you've ever read any of my fashion posts you'll see I have a penchant for the weird and wonderful, mostly anything that would be fashionable in on a different planet aka SPACE WEAR! I also think Betty was responsible for this with the amazing video for Where Are You Baby?
I'll give you a moment to process that. This video is probably in my top 5 music videos of all time, and how adorable is Betty?! Check out the sparkly tights and shoulder pads! The back up singers with purple bobs! Knee high boots! Aliens! It's like ALL MY FAVOURITE THINGS in one video. As shown by the above song, Betty was a great pop star. She wrote all her own songs and there's elements of the music which you can hear in pop today. She sounds similar to Salt n Pepper but she just seems more fun. Like Deee-Lite but not annoying. Even Madonna was a big fan of Betty! She was just a breath of fresh air from super athletic, crunchy haired 80s pop stars. I am completely in love with her!

Betty didn't fade away after the 90s, in fact she wrote Hear'Say's number one hit Pure and Simple! She continues to work in music, a few years ago starting a project with Alex James from Blur (another icon for another day!) called Wigwam. Sadly they never completed an album, but there are some sexy promo shots which I enjoy looking at!Those are some sexy fourtysomethings amirite?! You can reaquaint yourself with Betty on Spotify, where they have her first two amazing albums!
